"Remember saying things like 'we'll sleep when we're dead'
And thinking this feeling was never gonna end.

Remember that night you were already in bed,
Said 'fuck it' got up to drink with me instead

#111 (of 365) "Coma Summer" Weekend

1/27/2026

Weekend is a band I saw during my first year living in Hoboken, back in 2013 or maybe 2014, at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. They opened for another band, No Joy, and I remember when I mentioned the show to a friend they described my music as a "No Joy Weekend," which was funny at the time. I don't know that I remember the show itself that well. I'm pretty sure I loved it, but I'm also pretty sure I didn't really know either band at the time--maybe I knew a song or two at most for each--and it was a change / start of a new concert attending paradigm for me, now that I lived within such short train rides of Brooklyn. I started to go to shows of bands I barely knew, in the genre of music I listened to, just to see if they were any good and why the hell not. And it's been a wonderful experience. Yes, there have been many misses, but for the most part, I've seen some incredible shows and discovered amazing bands which have fueled future concert attendance and so on and so on. "No Joy Weekend" was one of the first of those shows and of the two bands, Weekend lasted for me. I still listen to the album "Sports" some 15 years after its release and this song is one of my favorite songs of all time.

The Knitting Factory doesn't exist anymore (at least not in Brooklyn at that location). Weekend doesn't exist anymore (I think Sports was their only full length). I have no idea what happened to No Joy, but I didn't really follow them after that show. I don't even live in Hoboken anymore. It's been 12 years and it feels something like forever. But I still do go to Brooklyn for shows and I'm still looking for new bands all the time. I hope that lasts forever.
