#129 (of 365) "1999" Phantom Youth

My #1 favorite song of 2023, this throwback track that feels like it could have come from the 80s, if not 1999, with its Day Wave/shoegaze circa New Order or Cocteau Twins vibes. And it was featured on an EP, not a proper album, followed by a ton of songs by the band that I loved. Their debut album last year was quite solid, although with their singles-heavy release schedule, I had heard a bunch of the tracks already. Either way, this is a band to keep an eye on in the future, and this is one of the highest ranking "newer" tracks on this list.
