The first album I heard by Sufjan (not his first album) was such a revelation to me, a new, pure singer-songwriter's voice, singing such beautiful peaceful songs with such joy, I fell in love. Sufjan followed up Michigan with Illinois and announced he was going to do all 50 states as an album, which never happened (no other state-based albums followed) but for a brief moment in the mid 2000s it was a magical dream.
