#168 (of 365) "Life Worth Missing" Car Seat Headrest

Making a Door Less Open (2020) was the follow-up from Car Seat Headrest of the absolutely brilliant remastered re-release of Twin Fantasy and the first "new" album from the band that I'd discovered in the mid-2010s that was, at least a bit, disappointing. It came out during COVID and ushered in a change in the band's musical output related to Will Toledo's COVID-related illnesses (I believe), with less new music from such a prolific writer and way less touring. In fact, it was the last studio album release until this year's The Scholars, which for me, was a pretty big swing and a miss. Songs released this year are not eligible for this list, as it was originally compiled in 2024, but I can say that no tracks from that album would have made this list (even though there are a few standouts) and only this song from MADLO is on this list. It happens to all bands, I remind myself--that they all hit a lull, and this one being likely illness related is unfortunate, but man, I really really adored everything Will Toledo released from Nervous Young Man (2013) through Twin Fantasy (2018) and there were so many great hidden songs from before then as well--and they were amazing live--it's just ultimately disappointing, I guess that this song may be the last gasp of a great artist. But he's still young and there's still plenty of time. I hope he can get back to making great music again.
