#176 (of 365) "Greet Death" Explosions in the Sky

Explosions In the Sky's second full-length album came out on September 4, 2001. This is the first song of that album. The  liner notes contained a picture of an airplane and the text "This Plane Will Crash Tomorrow".

That is, some might say, an unfortunate coincidence for the band. 

They recovered with a brilliant third album, which is how I discovered them, because this album was basically buried by the national circumstances around its release. In later years, though, I came to love this album almost as much as--maybe more so--than their follow up, and the opening two tracks did make this list. Beautiful and inspiring and brilliant. All guitars and drums without vocals.
