#203 (of 365) "The Exploding Boy" The Cure

The erstwhile The Cure, who inexplicably put out a new album in the past year--I didn't bother to listen to it--were once one of my favorite bands, back in college at Rutgers in the early 90s, before they veered too mainstream and I lost complete interest. But they managed to get six songs on this countdown, including this B-side that appeared on the double-cassette "best of" collection from 1986, landing on the B-side of the collection along with all the other lost singles that I had never heard before until I bought this cassette, sometime in the early 90s. I may not have even heard much of their early hits until this album, which spanned their singles collection from 1979 to 1985 and included three A-sides that will appear higher on the countdown. The Cure I first fell in love with was the "Just Like Heaven" version but The Cure I admire today is Standing on a Beach, staring at the sea, The Stranger from The Stranger, "Killing An Arab."
