#230 (of 365) "Simulation Swarm" Big Thief

For reasons that I hope are not related to internalized sexism of some kind, the vast majority of artists on this countdown are fronted by male singers. Indie rock is a pretty male-dominated genre, although indie pop in more recent years has been very much dominated by folksy female singers like the women who front the indie supergroup boygenius. And I do like boygenius, to a point, and Phoebe Bridgers has two tracks on this countdown (Lucy Dacas and Julien Baker do not have any) but true "indie rock" female singers are pretty rare. At least on this countdown. There's Alvvays, who we just heard from a couple songs ago, who landed four tracks on the chart, and Adrianne Lenker's Big Thief, with 3. That's kind of it, unfortunately, for indie rock bands fronted primarily with women, with multiple songs on this countdown. And it kind of underscores just how awesome Big Thief is. I'm actually sort of shocked that only 3 songs appear, as "Shark Smile" definitely just missed the cut, and I wish I had found room for "Masterpiece" or "Forgotten Eyes" or even "Parallels". But alas, this is the 2nd of the 3 tracks for the Australian indie rockers, with one more coming much much higher than this (spoiler alert!)
