#236 (of 365) "Leather Jacket" Joyce Manor

Continuing the trend of new(er) punk(ish) bands that I've fallen hard for this past decade is another track from the Torrance, CA, band featured heavily in my 2nd novel  The Best Hardcore Band in PA . The boys who form a band in their garage in the middle of nowhere PA sneak down to Philly with their friend (and pseudo-third band member) Mindy, who can drive, and take in a Joyce Manor concert at Union Transfer<?> It's been a while since I wrote the novel (like 5+ years) so I'm not quite sure where the concert takes place but they end up in the mosh pit and after the concert there's a (spoiler alert) kiss which sets in motion the rest of the events of the story. It's a really great novel. I mean, I wrote it but it's gotten my most positive reviews to date and it did win 2nd place in the best indie LGBTQ+ novel of 2024, so yeah, pick up a copy. Anyway, this is not the song the kids mosh too, but I would venture to guess that Joyce Manor played "Leather Jacket" at their show because they play in at all their shows and much like Yo La Tengo a couple posts ago, I've seen them live more often than I can count. 20 times? Maybe. 15 definitely, I'd say. And I've definitely wandered into the pit more often than not.
