"Remember saying things like 'we'll sleep when we're dead'
And thinking this feeling was never gonna end.

Remember that night you were already in bed,
Said 'fuck it' got up to drink with me instead

#241 (of 365) "I'm a Believer" The Sheila Divine

5/10/2025

This song was once one of my favorite songs ever. But the band's existence fell into the fallow period between the mainstreamification (not a word) of alternative music and my discovery of what had become underground indie rock music in the late 90s. So I played their debut 1999 album New Parade over and over again and screamed in my bedroom to the lyrics of this song--which spoke to a closeted post-college me in a way-too-obvious way--but as indie rock took over my musical interests, the band disappeared from me (and the world -they stopped recording in 2001 after 2 albums, only to reunite a decade later). All that's left is this song, and it's almost just a memory of this song. But I think it's still good. It still made the chart. It's just that 28 year old me would be shocked this is where it fell.

I hesitate. It's much too late. I can't tell where this bad day ends.
Given half a chance, due to circumstance.
I know I can act, you should see me lie!
