#257 (of 365) "The Crystal Lake" Grandaddy

I'm certain I've already told the Grandaddy origin story, and it's quite similar to the one from Modest Mouse. I bought the CD that included this song based on this song appearing in the CMJ New Music Monthly magazine I subscribed to at the time. But I never listened, for reasons that probably had to do with my very rough head space at the time, and then when I did, finally listen to The Sophtware Slump, I wondered where this band had been all my life. 

There was music before "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot"--the opening track off Grandaddy's second album. And there has been music after. But something changed in me irreversibly once I heard that song, and the entire album. Those two tracks are the only ones from the amazing record to make this list, which is kind of shocking to me, in retrospect. Because it really did change me at the time.
