"Remember saying things like 'we'll sleep when we're dead'
And thinking this feeling was never gonna end.

Remember that night you were already in bed,
Said 'fuck it' got up to drink with me instead

#268 (of 365) "Heroes" David Bowie

3/18/2025

A massive mural of David Bowie is painted on a building on the Jersey City / Hoboken border (on the Cast Iron Lofts building), greeting everyone who drives or walks into Hoboken with the visage of a great man. I lived for a couple years right next to that building and I still drive into Hoboken all the time and it's impossible to miss. Bowie is of course iconic and I am not one knowledgable enough about the history of his music (much of which came when I was a child) to write about it here. I just knew I needed to include at least one song from the legend on this list. There are others that I love, of course. Life on Mars. Space Oddity. Ashes to Ashes. Starman. The early '80s radio hits like "Modern Love" or "Let's Dance" were my first introductions and I can't say they lasted the test of time. But I ended up settling on "Heroes," a song I liked when I was young and still find joy in today. This song edges out Squeeze's "Up the Junction" (1979) and is the oldest track on this countdown.
