"Remember saying things like 'we'll sleep when we're dead'
And thinking this feeling was never gonna end.

Remember that night you were already in bed,
Said 'fuck it' got up to drink with me instead

#282 (of 365) "Temptation" New Order

2/16/2025

While the Jesus & Mary Chain were one of my favorite alternative bands of the 80s/early 90s, there were only 3 bands at the time fighting for my true number one favorite band. The Smiths, The Cure, and New Order. The Smiths had already broken up by the time I discovered them in college. The Cure hit a peak (in my mind) with 1989's Disintegration, but by 1995 were releasing really bad music and faded from my fandom during the indie rock new wave in the early 2000s. But New Order, there they were releasing my favorite song of the year in 2001 with "Crystal," which was, I can now say, the final gasp of my "alternative music" era (1987-2000) that got replaced by the ongoing indie rock era. That song didn't come close to making this chart. Lots of wonderful New Order songs didn't make this chart. No Bizarre Love Triangle. No True Faith. No Love Vigilantes or Face Up. Nothing at all from Brotherhood or Low-Life. Not even Blue Monday.

But they still got six songs on this chart, a tribute to how much I once loved them. This song was originally recorded in 1981 but I discovered it from the re-release on what was my first New Order album, 1987's singles collection Substance, in which they re-recorded this track in the form I love to this day.

I never met anyone quite like you before.
