"Remember saying things like 'we'll sleep when we're dead'
And thinking this feeling was never gonna end.

Remember that night you were already in bed,
Said 'fuck it' got up to drink with me instead

#287 (of 365) "Last Snowstorm of the Year" Low

2/13/2025

I've spoken about Mimi Parker's tragic early death to cancer when I spoke about Low earlier, but it still kind of shocks me to think about, to consider the great body of work left behind by her. This song--their 3rd and last on the chart--is a song that could not be more appropriate for the winter we are having here in the NYC area, hammered by 5 or 6 different snowstorms of varying intensity since winter started. None have been more than six inches but all have been annoying (as a huge fan of summer and huge hater of winter) and temperatures have hung below freezing nearly every single day since January 1st. Looking at the outlook for next week, it's not going away any time soon. On the bright side, we have plenty to distract us from the bad weather with--our government being taken over by autocratic billionaires; long-time civil servants being locked out of their computers and jobs; the economy teetering because of tariff threats and uncertainty over the mad "King" takeover; planes falling out of the sky--you know, just a normal chill January. Oh and the only sports team I really follow anymore (Syracuse Orange) are having their worst season since 1989. I miss Mimi Parker's beautiful voice. Let it snow, I guess. No reason to leave home right now.
