#295 (of 365) "Whatever's Cool with Me" Dinosaur Jr.

One of my favorite bands of the 90s, Dinosaur Jr. ended up with 6 songs on this countdown. Now, I say one of MY favorite bands of the 90s, because that's when I discovered them and their discography, which of course dates back to the 80s, when they were a 3-piece that featured J. Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph, a trio that lasted for 3 albums--the latter two absolutely brilliant. The infamous Mascis-Barlow feud (quashed in the 2000s) led Lou to leave the band, and later Murph, and the songs I first heard from Dinosaur Jr.--the early 90s tracks from Where You Been ("Start Choppin", "Out There") and Without a Sound ("Feel the Pain") became part of my favorites of all time lists for a long time. None of those songs made this chart ("Out There" was close to the cut line). In fact, the "newest" Dinosaur Jr. songs on this list come from before all that, in 1991, which saw the release of the first post-Lou album Green Mind, along with an SST Records compilation Fossils, AND a Sire Records compilation that featured this title track. So this is 1 of 2 songs without Lou on bass, but it's definitely "old school" Dinosaur Jr. and still has Murph on drums.
