#303 (of 365) "Empty Room" Arcade Fire

Both tracks from Arcade Fire's last good album The Suburbs (2010) that appear on this countdown did not crack the top 300, despite both being among my favorite songs of that year, when they were first released. It was very shortly after that--in retrospect--that my new favorite bands of the past decade all released their first albums and my musical interest would turn away, somewhat significantly, from the bombastic concept-heavy Canadian indie rock performed by the Montreal band and move toward Beach Fossils (What a Pleasure, 2011), Cloud Nothings (Attack on Memory, 2012), Joyce Manor (Joyce Manor, 2011), Wild Nothing (Golden Haze, 2010) and a host of other bands that would turn the early part of the 2010s into the most prolific years on this countdown. 2011 and 2012 combine for 34 of the 365 tracks, nearly 10%. (2005 actually has the most songs, with a mind-blowing 22 singles released that year!). But this last gasp from a former great is a pretty incredible song.
