#307 (of 365) "You Are Who You Are" Day Wave

This New Year's Eve, we spent a couple days at an AirBnb in Atlantic City, of all places, and it was a pretty great time, especially getting to run around on the beach with Elie during her morning walk, since it wasn't super cold and it was sunny and gorgeous, with the waves washing on the sand. And one night, the kids (who are no longer kids, some are in college) were singing karaoke songs that of course I didn't know, so I made a request for a song, and my friend asked what band and I said--as a reflex Day Wave. Day Wave are my dog Elie's favorite band, only because every time we leave her alone in the house, we ask Alexa to put Day Wave on. Why Day Wave? Well they have a pretty large catalog now, and their mellow beach music to me is great soothing background music that will keep her calm and not freaked out anytime a dog walks by our house. But because it's so often played in our house, my partner--who doesn't particularly care for my music--by now can quote the lyrics to many a Day Wave song. So "Day Wave" has become a shorthand for "Bill's music," and I don't mind--it's fine, even if there are a dozen or more bands that I'm a bigger fan of that the California artist who I still haven't seen live (he never tours, and the only time I can remember that he was on tour in NYC, it got canceled due to Covid). Anyway, on New Year's, my first response was "Day Wave" and then of course, I chose "Drag" (which will be much higher on this list) and sang my heart out to the band, at least until the crowd of horrified friends made me stop.

I love this band, but this is one of only 3 songs that made this list and 1 of them is a cover. It's the type of band where every song is "good" but also kind of sounds the same and not that many are "great." This is one of the great ones.
