#40 (of 365) "It's All Gonna Break" Broken Social Scene

BSS stormed the indie rock scene back in the early 2000s, a collective of Canadian friends and musicians whose debut album became the talk of Pitchfork and Stereogum all the indie rock blogs back when there were all the indie rock blogs and I miss that time, I miss that feeling, I miss the discovery of such beautiful new music in a collective (as it were) space like the indie rock blogosphere. These days, I discover new music two ways only: (1) Apple Music's shitty horrible terrible algorithm plays something close to something I like when I try to play a "Real Estate station" or "Cloud Nothings station" or (2) I see them live in concert, either opening for a band I like, or sometimes headlining over a band I like, or just I'm looking for a show on a random weekend and stumble into a venue that plays bands I know and I not only like them live but come home and fall in love (this happened with UNIVERSITY this year and I'm all-in on them right now, so much so they are featuring in my latest novel but that's more and more rare). It's all pretty rare, or it feels really difficult to find great new music and back in the heyday of the early 2000s bands like BSS were everywhere in my world (the Internet, at the time). Anyway, the only song of theirs to make this list is this one, from their second album, coming in at #40 overall, all time, which is pretty fucking impressive.
