#44 (of 365) "Barnes' Yard" The Rural Alberta Advantage

I remember when this song came out. I remember listening to it nonstop, on repeat, on my iPod (maybe?) because I think I got an iPhone right around this time but was still carrying the iPod around. I was still living in South Brunswick and still trekking an hour north to the City to attend concerts (or an hour south to Philly with my friend Jackie, usually). And this time in my life seems ephemeral for me--2011 was the year of my toe injury and 2012 was the year of my toe surgery and the entirety of that time I was basically in pain and just struggling to get by but also, oddly, hopeful, because "as soon as my toe healed" (which took until 2013) I was going to sell my house and move to Hoboken and start up my life again. Which all, miraculously, happened, because I did put my house up for sale in 2012 (before the toe had healed) and sold it in March 2013 and by May 1st I was living in a 1300 SF apartment in Hoboken for $1,000 a month LESS than I'm paying for a 2000 SF apartment in Bayonne 13 years later because everyone in NJ had the same idea as me--damn, Hoboken is a really cool place, let's move there--and I don't remember where I was going with this sentence but this song definitely feels trapped in the "before times" for me, a rough stretch of my life before the greatest stretch of my life (I happened to meet my partner at the end of 2012, which definitely was a factor). Anyway, I still get excited to hear "your brother's in the basement doing hot knives" anytime I hear it, and I don't quite hear it enough anymore.
