#333 (of 365) "The Crane Wife 3" The Decemberists

Back in the early 2000s, off the strength of Castaways and Cutouts and follow-ups Her Majesty The Decemberists and Picaresque, I became a huge fan of the literary-infused original songwriting of Colin Meloy and his Decemberists band, and in an earlier time, they would have populated this list with at least a half dozen tracks. Alas, in the ensuing years, particular after the release of the massive, overwrought "musical" The Hazards of Love, my interest in the band waned to the point that this track, off their odd but solid fourth album The Crane Wife, is the only one to make the list. It's still a great song and reminds me of an earlier time of indie rock joy. Enjoy.
