Happy Halloween

10/31/2024

This post has nothing to do with Halloween.
Nor the election.
Nor my writing.
It's simply about music.

Back -- 20 years ago, maybe more, I don't remember the exact date, I started a blog, called Vague Space, which no longer exists. Maybe in the Internet Archive it does, but at some point I let it die, then I lost the domain name and it's now lost to history. I do have this blog page on my author website (which you are reading right now!) but I haven't had the time or made the time to post on any kind of regular basis for the past 11 years (since I moved to Hudson County with my partner). Life has gotten in the way and publishing two books has gotten in the way and blogging isn't a lucrative medium (financially, obviously) or even as a way to engage viewers. But it's something I do miss, even though I don't have the time to write at all, but I thought of a topic that would force me to blog every day for the next year and for reasons that are unclear, I decided to do it.

The topic is music, of course. Specifically my favorite music.
In my Apple Music playlists is a playlist called "All Time" which I created probably 20 years ago when I bought my first iPod and got iTunes (I remember specifically that was in February 2004, so over 20 years ago). Anyway, this list has changed as new music has come out and older music has faded but I spent several days this fall making it as accurate to 2024 as I could and I've been playing these songs -- which range from releases from the 1970s all the way to 2024 - and reminiscing about a simpler time, when I had the time to think more about music, the music that soundtracked my life. As any reader of the old Vague Space blog knows, I'm a huge indie rock fan and this list is almost exclusively that, but if you are stumbling upon this post, please come back tomorrow, and the next day, and for the next year, to see a song a day from the list, from #365 to #1, with whatever YouTube I could find, for the greatest music of "All Time". Thanks for reading.
